In order to remove any doubt about who is the real “boss” of the Global Fortress, the British Royal Institute – think tank (Chatham House) clarified to Biden “his” British imperial policy, writes Emilia Aleksandar Geleva.
With the world attention focused on the gender issues of Biden’s appointed administrations, imperialists at the Royal Institute of Foreign Affairs (Chatham House) – in the post-Trump and post-Brexit eras – pledge to continue with their supposedly deserved place as a master of the rulers of the universe. This would be the significance of the new Chatham House report, released on 11 January 2021, entitled “Global Britain, a Global Factor: Outlining the United Kingdom’s Future International Role“. The report implicitly states that Britain no longer has to be an “Asian pillar”, as stated in the previous report of 22 November 2020.
The previous report called for the empire to move to Indo-Pacific (anti-Chinese) centered diplomacy – even to send the aircraft carrier Queen Elizabeth to the Indo-Pacific waters. But, following the operation to oust the US President Donald Trump, now, the director of the Royal Institute of International Affairs of the British Empire, Niblett, writes that “instead of being reincarnated as a miniature great power, the country has a chance to remain internationally influential if it serves as Global Solutions Broker” in areas such as Climate Change, International Peace and Security, and Global Tax Transparency.
To achieve these goals, “the UK will need to invest in and use its unique combination of diplomatic reach, diverse security opportunities and international development.” In translation, this means that the “dirty things” around the Asian axis and China, Britain is handing over to Biden, so that Britain can “fix” the world.
Enthusiastically giving their thumbs up to this view of British imperial policy, like-minded imperialists from the Atlantic Council on January 14 (author Ben Judah) point to two possibilities that the new Global Britain will have to do to achieve just that (commanding from the background). These are the two summits to be held in the UK: the G7 summit in June and the rescheduled UN Climate Change Conference (COP26) in Glasgow in November. In addition, if Biden does what he promised (actually, what he was told), the additional Democracy Summit (what NATO members are thinking about) will also be the biggest opportunity, whether it is held in America, Great Britain or Europe.
Anyone who knows history – knows that the Perfidious Albion has no permanent allies, only interests – would see through Niblett’s words that “Britain should invest in becoming a global factor, using its unique means of linking liberal democracies, in a time of for them strategic uncertainty, to engage together with other countries that are willing to act constructively in common international challenges, more precisely those other are the “servants” countries.
At the same time, the British Royal Institute of International Affairs / Chatham House issued guidelines on what the Biden administration must adopt as its foreign policy priorities. Under the heading “Foreign Policy Priorities for the Biden Administration,” the top of the list is “Fix Democracy in America.” Unless the United States restores “confidence in democracy” at home, it will not be able to meet the global challenge of “powerful and competent authoritarianism,” according to the Royal British Institute.
The head of the American program at Chatham House, Dr. Leslie Vinjamuri, outlined three steps that are considered “essential, though not enough on their own” to “fix” American democracy. Second on the list is: “It is essential to set up a fact-finding committee and take responsibility for the worst injuries in the Donald Trump era; “this should much extend further from the narrower focus of impeachment.” This makes it clear what these Britons mean by “democracy”. When the queen speaks, Hillary Clinton and Nancy Pelosi jump right in and demand that Trump’s ties to Putin be established so that they can repair the damage to American national security.
So much for American “democracy.” The United States, unfortunately, continues to remain as a ground on which the British are practicing “democracy.”
